Rooted in Gleadless Valley.....
Supporting people, bringing communities together.
Gleadless Valley Foodbank was established as a charity in 2013, in response to growing hardship and the impact of austerity. From the beginning, we offered emergency food and a warm welcome to anyone who needed support, without judgement or unnecessary barriers.
Over the years, the challenges facing local people have changed. Rising living costs and ongoing financial pressures mean that, for many households, making ends meet is an everyday struggle rather than a short-term crisis.
We've changed and grown in response to what our community needs.
Our Community Pantry, which has now been running for over a year, offers people greater choice and access to good-quality, affordable food. We continue to provide emergency food support to anyone who needs it through the pantry.
But we're about more than food.
Through 189 Project, we're creating a welcoming community space where people can connect, share skills, access support and make things happen together. From community activities and events to new ideas led by local people, we want 189 Project to be a place that belongs to everyone.
Whether you need a little help, have something to offer or just fancy a cup of tea and a chat, you're always welcome.
A little about our name
Our registered charity name is Gleadless Valley Foodbank (Registered Charity No. 1154619).
189 Project is the name we use for our wider community activities and community hub, including our Community Pantry. It's all part of the same local charity, working alongside the people of Gleadless Valley.
